Every early morning the piroga boats pull in at Tanji. Men haul crates of ice and tuna, women sell along the water's edge. Smoke from the smoking ovens hangs over the beach. Loud, raw, real — this isn't a tourist attraction, it's just work. You pass through on day 2 heading toward Tendaba. A quarter hour stop is enough. Go early: the catch is heaviest then and the atmosphere is most intense.
💡 Gambia's biggest fish market, busiest in early morning. Colorful boats, smoking fires, the smell of the sea — a photographer's paradise. Early is essential.
