DAY 1Brufut
Arrival in Gambia. Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport, you'll recognize him by the sign with your name. The Home Base is everything you need today.
Home Base · Brufut
What does the day look like?
You step off the plane, and someone's waiting in arrivals with a sign. No fuss, no hanging around. Twenty minutes later you're on the terrace of the Home Base, with a cup of coffee, a cold Julbrew, or a fresh smoothie. Depending on your flight, breakfast or dinner is ready. Local, fresh, good. Today there's no agenda, no schedule. Your XT660Z is standing by. Use the day to explore the neighbourhood, take a ride around, or just hang in the garden. Brufut is deliberately a quiet corner of the Gambia coast. Because tomorrow the riding starts.
Recommended for day 1
You've earned it. Stretch out on the quiet stretch of Bijilo Beach, or drop into a resort and order something cold. No agenda. Just recover.

DAY 2Tendaba Camp
Your first real ride: and straight away a good one. Around 180 kilometers, nearly all smooth asphalt. First you head toward Tanji Fish Market: colorful pirogue boats on the beach, smoking fires, maybe an early catch. Then the open road inland. For the last few kilometers you leave the asphalt for a narrow, adventurous track that takes you straight to your camp on the Gambia river.
Tendaba Camp
What does the day look like?
Leave early and you've got a solid stretch ahead. Coffee, bike fired up, gate open. The roads through Gambia are an experience in themselves. Busy villages, colourful stalls, people watching you pass. Real Africa, unfiltered. Around ten you stop in Tanji. The fish market is chaos: piroga boats, tuna and shouting. Loud, colourful and genuinely authentic. Quarter hour looking, taking pictures, moving on. Then the road again. In the final kilometres you dive into the bush, sand tracks winding toward the river. Adventurous, fragrant, green. Then camp. Tendaba isn't a resort, that's right. It's a camp on the river: simple, green, quiet. Power cuts happen, it comes with the territory. But after 180 kilometres on the bike you just want to sit. There's beer. There's food. There's evening light on the water. That's more than enough.
Aangeraden
The busiest fish market in Gambia. Pirogues full of tuna arriving early morning, men hauling crates, ice, fisherwomen selling. Raw, real and loud.
meer info →Pirogue from the camp, out onto the river. Birdwatching along the banks, crocodiles floating in the water, hippos in the distance. The river landscape at its finest.

Birdwatching on the river
Gambia is world-famous for its birdlife
Sunset by the water
Unforgettable light in the interior
Kiang West National Park
Gambia's largest protected area. Waterbucks, warthogs and hundreds of bird species: accessible only with a guide. Short ride from Tendaba.
DAY 3Fathala Wildlife Reserve
160 kilometers and the world changes. You cross the river at Farafenni, the bridge north toward Senegal. Border crossing takes roughly 45 minutes, passport ready, a little patience. Then toward the reserve. The evening is still yours.
Fathala Wildlife Reserve
What does the day look like?
160 kilometers. The first half is asphalt, roads wide, pace steady. The further inland, the quieter it gets. At Farafenni you cross the river: the Gambia river, broad water, green on both banks. Then the border crossing into Senegal. Wait, stamp, stretch your legs. A quarter hour, no more. Once in Senegal the rhythm changes. Fewer cars, more red shoulders. The road runs through dry savanna. Then a gate opens. You're at the reserve.
Aangeraden
In an open jeep into the reserve, shortly after arrival. The sun drops, the animals come alive. Herds of the rare West African derby giant waterbuck antelope, found only here. Giraffes, lions, rhinos, buffalo, warthogs. ±2 hours, guide included.
meer info →Once-in-a-lifetime chance: walk on foot with lions in the reserve. Not behind glass, not from a distance, just walking alongside them with a guide who knows them. Insight into lion behavior, plenty of room for photos. 40–45 minutes.
meer info →Ook mogelijk
DAY 4Fathala — free day
Wake up in nature. Bird calls, savanna scent, no schedule. Today is yours to fill. We recommend the island, but the choice is yours.
Fathala Wildlife Reserve
What does the day look like?
No bike. No schedule. You're in a place in West Africa where you hear the birds before the sun comes up. Today you choose. Island trip if you want it, boat at eleven, fish off the beach, back for dinner. Safari if yesterday wasn't enough. Or nothing at all: lie by the pool, listen to what moves in the bush.
Aangeraden
Fathala's own island. Beach walking, swimming, fish BBQ on the sand. Six hours. Back before dinner.
meer info →Guided walk alongside lions. 40–45 minutes. Unrepeatable experience.
meer info →Ook mogelijk
DAY 5Brufut
Sixty kilometers. Ferry crossing included. You cross the Gambia river, half an hour afloat, then it's asphalt toward the coast. Back at base in time for a final afternoon.
Home Base · Brufut
What does the day look like?
The last ride is the shortest. Sixty kilometers, ferry included. Then asphalt toward the coast. First stop: home base. Drop your gear, shower, catch your breath. After that, it's your call. Albert Market in Banjul is on the way, stalls full of batik, wood carvings, jewelry. An hour flies past like fifteen minutes. Bijilo is nearby: monkeys that come straight at you. The bike is still there: whoever wants it takes one last lap. The evening is yours.
